Battle scars, Home Runs and Getting Naked | Sioux Falls Boudoir

Do you know who Lauren Chamberlain is? If your daughter isn’t chasing around after a 12” yellow, leather ball, you might not know just how amazeballs Lauren Chamberlain is, AND even more importantly, if you don’t know what Chamberlain knows you probably need to hear it, we all do.

Body Positive Boudoir

When approached by ESPN to pose NAKED for the cover of their Body Issue, Chamberlain jumped at the chance. As she shared it, she’s not as “jacked” as typical ESPN athletes, she didn’t possess the slim curves of girls she saw on Instagram, she was thicker and bigger… but she recognized that HER BODY was worthy of celebration. Her body, with all its curves, strength, hard work and hitting mechanics, has the stature it needed to hit over 90 home runs earning her the title of having the most NCAA career home runs: ever.

Lauren Chamberlain wants you to see her curves and appreciate their value and their beauty.  She wants you to understand that her body *has* to look the way it does to give her the *power* to be the athlete she is. Just like the curves and shape and stature of YOUR body gives you the power to be the best Mom, wife, friend, sister, daughter, co-worker! Your body is your power, and it is beautiful. Capturing that body in it’s pure, naked, and honest form is empowering.

That’s the thing about this body love journey: its life long, it’s full of struggle, and it’s ageless. We compare ourselves to others.

That’s the thing about this body love journey: its life long, it’s full of struggle, and it’s ageless. We compare ourselves to others. We see those Pinterest walls, those Insta posts, or the seemingly perfect bodies that float by as we scroll our Facebook feed… but we don’t know everyone’s story. We don’t know their struggles, or how many hours they spend at the gym, or how many minutes they spend looking at *our* feed and feeling the same way about us! The crazy thing is IT DOESN’T MATTER! Your body is yours, it has battle scars of babies created, PCOS battles fought – which were won and lost and won and lost again – but you’re there getting up every day, showing up for your family, your friends, your work – and your body… it shows up with you. It works hard for you helping you do the things only you can do.

You have the stature of a Badass Boss.

Did you work super hard and lose 25 pounds?  Did you slip on those favorite jeans which now fit again after having your sweet babe? Let’s celebrate those new curves!  Let’s take them for a test drive and show them off! Did you just drop off the kids, answer fifteen emails, organize the coach's gift, clean your house and then reward yourself with a glass of wine and the last chocolate cupcake leftover from last weekend’s BBQ….?  Heck yeah, Mama! Get it! Give yourself those little rewards: you’re worth them! Give yourself, or rather give ME, the chance to celebrate everything you put into that body and all the good and beauty that it is and let’s capture it!

We have a team of hair and makeup specialists whose only job is to spend several hours pampering you, and together we illuminate the gorgeous, badass boss that you are. Is there any reward, any self- care, better than that?  Honor your stature, celebrate that body that does all the things and shows off its beauty. My team and I are here, in the proverbial dugout, ready to celebrate your every curve, every smile, and every last bit of your sexy confidence.

xoxo,
Shalista

Is Boudoir Porn? NO | Sioux Falls Boudoir

I see you sneaking around my galleries with visions of you in your man’s favorite jersey with the light cascading on your perfectly made curls. I see you, Mama, and I want you to know:  it’s okay!  I know that society and the world, and sometimes our own Mama’s, have informed us that pictures of semi-clad or naked women are somehow “bad,” or they are ‘porn.’ Ladies, let me assure you that the stunning and powerful images I create with these amazing women inspire me, they empower them, and each one is a piece of art, it is not porn. They are an artistic avenue to push your boundaries, unleash your inner sexy boss babe, and be bold.

First of all… if you don’t know the difference between Michelangelo’s David and anything made by Larry Flint, then you might not know the difference between what is commonly considered porn and modern-day boudoir photography. Just like we already know that all leggings are not created equal, not all images of a naked woman are either, and they often have different intentions in what emotions they wish to invoke in the viewer.

The Renaissance brought about the return of pride and appreciation of nudes when Pope Julius the II commissioned Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel, which is adorned with nude figures in the Creation of Adam and others. These are nudes whom people travel from all over the world to admire because that is why they were created: for people to admire these women. That’s what I do, create boudoir images and you, and whomever you choose to share them with, get to admire them.

That’s what I do, create boudoir images and you, and whomever you choose to share them with, get to admire them.

Boudoir isn’t about objectification; it’s about appreciation. When was the last time you sat and had a good, long, appreciative look at you? When?  Was it a month ago, a year ago… this morning? Whenever it was, I can promise you, that you are *not* doing it often enough. Boudoir photography is appreciation photography. Boudoir is confidence and freedom and power:  aren’t you ready to see and appreciate those things?

Boudoir photography is appreciation photography.

Girl, I know you because I am living the same life.  You’re up before everybody, going to bed after everybody.  You’re answering 15 emails, picking up take-out, running baths, mopping floors and folding laundry all while making sure the love/comfort/happiness meters of everyone in your life is full… but who is refueling your meter? Let’s refuel your meter with love and confidence and appreciation. Our team will pamper you, and together we can create images which fuel your beauty meter because that is what boudoir photography does.

The truth is, our moms and grandmas Glamour Photography of the 90s full of feather boas and pearl necklaces have grown up into the boudoir photography of today, and I am here for it.  Let’s be authentic; let’s get real and show you who you are by creating a new view of you. We can be bold and confident by pushing these boundaries and creating a space where you say, this is me, and I am one gorgeous, semi-clad, proud Boudoir Boss Babe.

Three Ways to Bring your Sexy Back. Boudoir Sessions in Sioux Falls

Three Ways to Bring your Sexy Back. Boudoir Sessions in Sioux Falls

Have you ever had those (weeks, days…months) where you just didn’t feel connected to your body?  Have you been feeling lately like you would like to get your mojo back? Get your “Sexy Back”, as our friend JT says?

I’m here to help you kick it up a notch and give you three reasons why NOW is the best time to schedule a boudoir session with me!

Winter is not over, and you want to turn up the flame.

The calendar might say spring, but one look outside the window is telling us something very different.

VideoShoot0011.jpg

It’s that time of the year that we’re all feeling a bit unsettled and maybe a little down. What better to rev up your life with a hot boudoir session that will leave you feeling pampered and great about yourself while you kick the gray skies and dirty snow to the curb?

I guarantee that once you’ve had your hair and makeup done and we start the session it will get those endorphins flowing. We’re going to work together to find the perfect look for you and your body type. Maybe wrapped up in cozy furs? How about a session with dozens of candles to give you a warm glow ALL over? I’ve got an entire wardrobe of fun for you to peruse, or feel free to bring in props, lingerie or accessories. The sky is the limit…..

You’ve got a rocking mom-bod and you’re not afraid to use it.

TanyaS0096.jpg

If you’ve had a baby within the last few years, you know you’ve gone through some changes, girl. As they say, mom-in’ ain’t easy, and you might be feeling down on yourself for not springing back to your old self. But here’s the truth. That man of yours and that baby love you right now.

Exactly how you are.  Imagine if you could give yourself some grace and embrace who you are. Wouldn’t that feel amazing? And you know what else would feel amazing?

A little time to yourself. Remember that? Come on in and let us celebrate you, mama.

If you have a few trouble spots you don’t want to show, that’s nothing to worry about.  I’ll work with you within whatever comfort zone you are in right now. Come on in, get your hair and makeup done, go to the bathroom all by yourself (with no one standing outside saying mom mom mom mom mom) and if you want to take a nap after the session on my big comfy bed, I’m down with that too.

RenaeH0009.jpg

You’re turning 30 for the first time, or maybe even for the second time.

Oh, those milestone birthdays.  The BIG ONES. The ones that you are kind of excited about and…maybe a little bit freaked out about? I know I’ve felt both ways.

I mean, on one hand, it’s a freaking celebration, right??!!  But on the other hand, how did the time go this fast?? These birthdays ARE a big deal. They are a right of passage!

So why not grab on and hold tight and give it all you’ve got?  It’s cliché but true…you only live once. Don’t put off things because we only have so much time on this green earth, and you only have one body to live and love with.

Have you ever looked at a photo from yourself from 10 years ago and thought “Damn, I looked so good, and I didn’t even appreciate it?” Yep.

Don’t wait for the next milestone, because they come and go faster than we’d like.

No matter where your “sexy” has gone, I’m here to help you get it back. Take this time for yourself, to reconnect and to enjoy yourself at a boudoir session that is going to make you feel amazing about yourself.

You’re not going to believe you waited so long.

Taking the leap and deciding to finally book your one of a kind boudoir photoshoot session is a huge accomplishment all on its own. Every woman deserves to experience the incredible empowerment of a boudoir photoshoot session at least once in their lives… now’s your chanceGive me a call today and let’s make your boudoir photoshoot session something you’ll never forget!

Send us a message! We’d love to talk to you about YOUR session!

Get it While It’s HOT; Cheap Boudoir Sessions in Sioux Falls!

Imagine if you were looking through a Sioux Falls Facebook page and someone had posted this:

“Any recommendations for a cheap gynecologist? Need an annual exam done but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg!”

I don’t know about you, but I rarely feel as vulnerable as when I am sitting in a paper gown on a table with stirrups on it and a plastic speculum waiting. When I’m there, I want to know that despite the fact this isn’t in my comfort zone, I’m going to have the best Dr. I can find and one who will treat me with respect. I want someone who, after all, is said and done, will make me feel like I did the right thing for my body.

Month after month I see these posts from women looking for the “cheapest” boudoir photographer.  I’m always left wondering who these bold women are who are so comfortable getting nearly naked in front of the cheapest photographer they can find. I know they’re not my clients because my clients tell me all the time how one of the things that were holding them back from booking a session was the fear of how the sessions will go.

They wonder:

Will I feel vulnerable?

Will you make me do weird sexy faces?

Will I have to get naked?

What if I hate the photos?

I’ve been doing boudoir since 2006, and I’m not the cheapest because I am really damn good at what I do, and more importantly, I’m really damn good at how I make you FEEL.

“If you have any hesitations about doing a session, put them to rest because she is the best!!! She made me feel like I was the sexiest thing alive and made me feel so beautiful!” ~ Sarah Jane

AliciaP0024.jpg
AmandaR0062-1.jpg

Boudoir photography is so much more than putting on some lingerie, arching your back and making pouty faces.

Look, you’re a woman. You get that someone making you feeling sexy is just as much in your MIND as it is with your body. It’s why we can be so totally HOT for the geeky guy who other people wouldn’t look at twice. If that man gets into your mind, he’s got you, body and soul.

Then there’s the other part. I can count on one hand the number of women who were completely comfortable and unabashed in my boudoir sessions, and they were professional models.  Every SINGLE woman who comes in here has hang-ups. About their body, their hair, whatever. Part of my job is to show you that none of that matters, and how the right posing and lighting can make a world of difference.

Shalista did an amazing job and coached me through every little thing! I was in awe at my viewing and couldn't believe how well the shots turned out! If you have been considering a boudoir session, do it! You will feel so empowered and sexy as hell.”~Chelsea Rae

You might feel vulnerable at first. All good things start with getting outside our comfort zones.

No weird faces, I promise.

You won’t have to get naked (unless you want to!)

I’ve never had someone hate their photos, but you can bet if I were the cheapest I wouldn’t care if you hated them as long as I got paid. If you don’t like the results, I’ll make it right because that’s what professionals do.

Are you ready?

*** Not my photo, but you get the point?

We’d love to talk to you about an amazing boudoir experience!

The hardest thing about a boudoir session.

My darlings,

The other day I got an email from a woman that said this: How do people get the confidence to do this?

When clients come in for boudoir photos, I sometimes let them in on a secret when they walk in the door:

“Congratulations. The hard part is over!”

Without a doubt, the hardest part of a boudoir session is getting yourself into the studio. After you walk in the door is when the pampering, the fun, and the magic happens.

Personalized Hair and Makeup
This is included in my Bombshell Signature Sessions for excellent reasons. First, damn, doesn’t it feel good to have someone do your hair and makeup? What a treat! Second, my professional makeup artists know how to apply makeup that photographs beautifully. They can hide small skin imperfections, make your eyes pop and do crazy amazing things with your hair. I work with the best of the best in the area, and you’re going to love how you look.

Access to The Closet
You do not have to run out and buy all new lingerie (unless you want to! 😊 ) All of my clients have full access to The Closet at my studio. In the closet you’ll find a wide range of items from bustiers to little black dresses to try on for different looks. I also have shoes, bras, camisoles, sexy, slinky things and beautiful flowing robes. Sizes go from 0-4X so there’s something for everyone. Just bring along a black or nude thong to wear under, and every item is laundered after it’s worn.

You Sexy Thang
Looking sexy does not mean the same thing for everyone. We’ll talk about what you want your photos to look and feel like before your shoot. There are some techniques I use to draw out your inner sexy beast. It’s in there, I promise you. It’s my job to work with you to make sure that we bring it out in a beautiful, natural way that matches your comfort level. You might have heard the phrase “confidence is sexy” and that’s surely true, but you don’t have to be 100% confident when you walk in the door. I’ll help you find it. Pinky swear

A Private Image Ordering Appointment
When we sit down at your private image ordering appointment, you’ll be blown away at how freaking GREAT you look! Each photo that you choose for your final images to take home will be hand-edited so that you look your very best without making you look “fake” or “plastic.” You don't have to take my word for it. We have tons of clients that say so.

Feeling ready to take the hard step of booking your appointment? Then let’s do it, girl! It’s as easy as clicking here…

Hope to see you soon!

xo,
Shalista

What You Should Know Before You Book a Boudoir Session with Shalista

You’re sitting there, paging through the Facebook group, looking at all of these amazing women of all shapes and sizes that I have photographed.  You’re wishing you could take the plunge, but...you’re worried. What will it be like? Let’s take a look at just a few things that you might be concerned about!

You Don’t Have to Spend a Fortune on Lingerie

What you wear is not nearly as important as how you own it when you wear it.  A poorly fitted or uncomfortable bra isn’t going to photograph well no matter how much you spend on it.  Wear whatever makes you feel sexy AF! One of his shirts, an old, slouchy sweatshirt, anything goes! Before your session, we will go over what to wear in my virtual preparation guide.

You Probably will be Nervous

Being nervous is totally natural! I’ve had my own boudoir sessions done so I know exactly how you are feeling.  I plan my sessions carefully, so there is plenty of time for you to chill out, get your makeup done and get into the right frame of mind before your session.

You’re in a Safe Place

I’ve photographed hundreds of half-naked and naked women in the years I’ve been in business. Every single one of them has a story, and sometimes we talk about some personal stuff during the session.  Please know that what happens in the studio stays in the studio. That goes for sharing photos as well, I never share or post photos without express permission of my clients.

Banishing Self-Hate Talk means Better Photos

You’re not going to “break the camera,” and I won’t “airbrush” all your flaws away.  In the days before the session, I want you to practice self-love, so you enter the session confident that you are going to look amazing. I will work with you to make sure that we highlight your assets and minimize what you don’t love.  Find a mantra, read an inspirational book, put an inspirational quote on your phone screen. Be mindful of letting negative thoughts in. It really does make a difference in how you feel, and that positive outlook translates into beautiful, powerful photos.

I’m Going to Tell You Exactly What to Do

From the moment we start the session, I’m going to be guiding you, posing you and showing you exactly what I need you to do. From the way you hold your chin, your lips, your shoulders, to how to connect your eyes to the camera, I’ll lead you through it all and explain why I am doing it. Boudoir is very different than any other photo session you have ever had because we are using posing and light to sculpt your body. The woman I photograph are just like you. They are mommas, working women, teachers, women of faith, of color. No session is alike because there is no one like you. I’ll help you through this every step of the way, but never outside your own personal comfort zone.

You’re Going to Want to Do it Again

Most people approach a boudoir session thinking it’s a one-time deal. But I will tell you that these sessions will empower you. They will make you see yourself as your loved ones see you. They are ADDICTING!

I’m looking forward to making some fantastic photos with you! Contact me today to get on the calendar.

Sorry I don't have any boobs.

I have been thinking about this topic for quite a while and had a really lovely conversation with a client about it recently. I meet, talk with and photograph women of all shapes, sizes, age and skin color. I really feel like I have met or photographed every type of woman out there! One thing I have found to be true is that every woman seems to have some hang up about something on her body. There is something she doesn’t love.

I am a bigger woman, and have been my entire life. I have wished to be skinny, dieted, and tried to make myself “better” than I felt I am. I have incredible insecurities that I always owned as just my own. I know my size has made other women of size comfortable with me because they’ve told me that.  I am so happy that any woman would feel safe enough to take boudoir photos with me, but as a big girl, I know the internal struggle some of these women have. There have been days I wondered if the beautiful skinny girls would turn away from me because of my size. I have thought that a fit girl walking in will not want me to photograph them because I am fat and not fit. It's my demon. Probably totally irrational, but that fear was there.

A few years ago a beautiful client came into the studio and she was stunning; the perfect body, great curves, could buy any lingerie she wanted and it would fit her. Then she said - I am sorry I don’t have any boobs.

WHAT? Did I hear her right? She was apologizing to me for not having large enough breasts. Then she apologized for “looking like a boy”.  I was dumbfounded. She was beautiful and a magazine perfect body! How could she feel like she didn’t look enough like a girl? At her reveal, she was shows she did have curves. She did have boobs. She was perfect just like she is. She cried and told me how she’d never felt beautiful in photos before.

It’s happened again and again in the studio. Women walk in every day and apologize to me for some flaw that only they see. They point out something they dislike because they think I will struggle with it. Their butt is too flat, their boobs are too big, their hair, their smile is weird, and the list goes on. I ask, your butt is too small compared to who? The next woman walking in the door might say, “My butt is so big” and I will say “Compared to what?”  It’s YOUR butt. The women with small breasts want bigger ones. The girls with big boobs want smaller ones. Who makes the rule of the perfect size boobs?

At a session recently I encouraged my client to not wear a bra under her bodysuit. She joked that they’d look terrible without support, but I promised her they wouldn’t. At her reveal she said, “My boobs look nothing like I think they do.” #truth  We do not see that truth in our own appearance.

As women, we compare our bodies to other bodies and find flaws that don’t exist. We compare our breasts to the other woman’s breasts that we think are perkier, bigger, rounder, or sexier. Instead of comparing ourselves to others and what we think could be better, wouldn’t it be more beneficial for us to learn to love and accept our body, flaws and all?

Even the picture perfect women in advertising are airbrushed and retouched, often to unrecognition. We are not comparing ourselves with reality. Let’s celebrate our own bodies. Love your little boobs. Embrace your big butt! None of those thing determine your beauty or worthiness. You are so beautiful just as you are and at the end of the day the only person who needs to love your body is YOU.

Sioux Falls Boudoir - Vintage floral stylized session with Rachel - Part 1

As a boudoir photographer, I am always focused on my clients needs and how I can best serve them. My studio is a real life storybook for their stories and experiences. Occasionally I like to write a story from my imagination, and I was thrilled to pull together the most amazing team to create a stunning spring floral shoot with our Brand Ambassador Rachel.

Sioux Falls Sylized Boudoir Photoshoot

It's a creative outlet to put together my own ideas and visions to create something exceptionally beautiful. I enjoyed the freedom of imaging the session, finding vendors and sharing these ideas with the team. How could I create my vision without feeling like it was cheesy or over-done? I found the best partners and we worked together to make something truly special.

Rachel's day began with Lacey Mae Makeup at her salon near Lake Lorraine. Lacey is one of the best make-up artists in the region. Her meticulous attention to detail and skills allow me to put complete faith in her. Rachel looked beyond stunning and Lacey perfectly brought my vision to life.

Vintage floral bathtub boudoir

I had a very specific idea for floral, and Alyssa Walker with Walker Down the Aisle put together the most amazing pieces. She worked hand and hand and asked a lot of questions to ensure I got what I needed. Didn't she do amazing? YES!! Adore, adore, adore!

Vintage tub and candles boudoir

Our original location didn't work out last minute, but I have my studio and it worked out perfect. I had just found this awesome vintage clawfoot tub online and it worked great!  Its a permanent fixture in the studio, so any client can have these type of tub images!

Floral vintage boudoir session

We were also able to use the studio backdrops to create a fashion look.

Sioux Falls Boudoir Photography

We had originally planned to do a milk bath at our original location, but we were able to find a solution and packed up our equipment and made magic happen! Check back for part 2 of our session and the milk bath images!

BIG NEWS!! Now offering Mini-Sessions all year round.

BIG NEWS: MINI SESSIONS YEAR-ROUND!!

For years, I’ve only offering boudoir mini sessions at Christmas, and then occasionally for Valentine’s Day. Those are the big boudoir gift-giving holidays. I occasionally offered a mini session to a bride who didn’t have a big budget. Mini sessions are smaller and more affordable, making it ideal for repeat sessions or someone wanting to dip their toes into the experience. Last November and December, we tested out offering White Sheet Sessions and found those to be very popular!

So, starting NOW, we are offering mini-sessions every week!!

Not only are we offering mini sessions, we are offering THREE KINDS! I am so serious and excited about this!  And, I heard you when you wanted a more affordable option. I still want to give my clients the love, time and experience, but give more women a chance to have a session of her very own, or come back to do it all again!

You will have a choice of White Sheets, Lingerie (The Angel) and Nudes

JeanW0090.jpg

Each style has its own unique type of lighting, emotion and connection with the camera.

The Angel session has always been an offer, but now it has a new low price! This will be a lingerie only session! You will pick one amazing piece of lingerie and we will shoot you on the bed and one other set. You can expect to have around 40 images from this session to choose from!

The Fine Art Nudes session is all about the body. The focus in these images will be on creating landscapes and artwork. These are great images for desks and wall art. These are not seductive or sexual in any way, but focus on the light and lines created by the body!

MelissaS0050.jpg

And, of course, the super popular White Sheets is now an option anytime!  These sessions allow you to control how much of your body is seen and are shot entirely on the white sheets. They are simple, seductive and incredibly sexy! We have a lot of clients return to do these White Sheets sessions!

With all of these sessions, hair and makeup is additional, and optional (although recommended). Scheduling is limited to 60 days or less.

I hope you find this a great change and opportunity for more people to come into the studio for sessions! I hope to meet and reach as many women as possible.

Are you interested in booking a mini session? Check our our MINI SESSION PAGE dedicated to our mini sessions and it will send you over to the online booking.

Hope to see you soon!

Miss A in Las Vegas - Las Vegas Boudoir - Do something scary!

The last 12 months have been pretty incredible for me professionally. I have been a photographer for 14 years, but feel that in the past year I have grown more as an artist and person than ever before. Boudoir has become a sensation for me, and has changed my outlook on life, my own personal confidence and the way I view other women. I took a trip to New Orleans last year and I was so nervous. I didn't know anyone and I was staying in a house with 9 women I had never met. I almost backed out. Even up to the day I left I thought maybe I shouldn't go. But I went. What does New Orleans have to do with Las Vegas? Well, New Orleans changed me and gave me courage to go to Vegas. I've been to Vegas before, but not like this!

There's a huge wedding and portrait photography convention in Las Vegas every year and in 14 years I have never went. I decided that this was my year to go. A couple people were looking for roommates and one of my new friends from New Orleans invited me to share their room. I registered, bought a plane ticket and went to Las Vegas. Alone!

Over the course of the next five days I met some of the most incredible women. We were strangers who felt like we'd know each other our whole lives. There was just a great connection with us. Maybe this tired mom and wife just really needed a "girls night out" but whatever it was, my soul and heart felt renewed and refreshed.

One of the people I met was Miss A. She's an incredibly kind and beautiful soul and I asked if she would let me photograph her. She'd never had a boudoir session of her own before, and so we made it happen. The camera loves her. It might be the kind, gracious woman inside, but her fiery red hair and funny personality are the entire package. I just love her! We had a great time doing her photos and we have already begun to plan our trip for next year.

If you are feeling like you are in a rut, or you need a change, or a friend or just... something, I can't encourage you enough to do something scary. In the last year I had a boudoir shoot of my own (SCARY!), took a plane to New Orleans alone where I didn't know anyone (SCARY!) and then took another plane to Vegas alone (Also Scary!). As scared as I was to step outside these comfort zones, I know now that I needed it. I needed to live a little louder and crazier and find myself a bit. I am incredibly grateful to Aroha and the others I met (You will meet them too!) for an incredible week of photography, friendship and inspiration.
