Miss R - I felt sexy as hell

From Miss R <3

From the time I arrived until the time I finished, Shalista was AMAZING.  I have always been self-conscious and hard on myself when it came to my body and the way I look.  I do not see what other people see when they look at me.  I wasn’t sure what to expect and how the shoot was going to play out.  I had wanted to do a boudoir session for quite a while, but I kept telling myself wait until you lose some weight and then do one. It got to the point that I was hating myself and hated looking in the mirror.  I finally said that I need to do this for me and boost my confidence. The second I stepped into the studio, my nervousness was gone, and I was welcomed with a great big hug and smile by Shalista. During the shoot Shalista made me feel comfortable, beautiful, sexy and that it was all about me.

This photo shoot gave me that confidence that I was wanting and needing all along.  It felt so empowering and I felt sexy as hell. When we reviewed the photos, I had continued to point out things I did not like about myself, from that point on I told myself I need to stop it.  I got an email saying my order has arrived, I went and picked up my book and I had no words, they were amazing. I couldn’t stop looking at them. I would definitely recommend this to all of my friends and would love to do it again myself.

Miss K - I was a beauty queen.

It started as an invite to from my daughter to join Sioux Falls Boudoir VIPs.  She has pictures done for a gift to her husband-to-be with Shalista.  I found the images beautiful. I accepted the invite and would view the posts in the page.  Then there it was... My daughter tagged me on a post.  It was the 40+ model call.  I qualified!!  Turing 50 this summer.

I have been making positive changes for myself.  Mentally and physically.  Changes that were long overdue.  I felt if I was to be chosen as a model, this could only be another positive experience.  The first step was to fill out the application.  To be chosen, I felt I needed to stand out... so I was myself.  UNIQUE.  I hit send and the rest is history.

I was a bit nervous about my shoot because I had an "accessory" that is not common place.  I debated about this up to the date of my session but thought "What the hell".  Made the decision!! This is about empowerment.  We can promote being sexy among the women in this group, why not sexuality, as well.  I wore my "jewelry" as anyone would wear earring, necklace or a bracelet :)

I do not wear a lot of makeup and I have embraced my grey hair and I believe I am an attractive woman.  Having my hair and makeup done was such a wonderful time and I looked like myself.  I was "dolled up" but still looked natural.  LacyMae did a beautiful job.

The direction received by Shalista, during the shoot was so easy to follow.  I didn't have to hit the perfect pose.  Shalista got the angle that made it the perfect pose.  The images will show this.  On the front end, I told her of a scar I have on my stomach.  She had asked if I wanted it to be covered up and I said no.  What you see is what you get.  All the scars I own have a story that have left a mark on me and my life.  Share the stories.  If me showing my scars will enable another person to embrace her imperfections, then I made a difference.

I was nervous and excited about seeing my images.  Empowerment is what I felt when I saw them.  Almost cried.  I was a beauty queen.

I would do this experience time and time again.  I have decided to make a photo shoot an annual treat to myself because I deserve it.  I am continuing the positive changes in my life and cannot think of a better way to commemorate my accomplishments

Miss M

Back in November my coworker told me about a Black Friday special that Shalista was having and I decided it was the perfect opportunity to get myself to do it, so I bought the package deal. After getting past my nerves I found a date that would work and got myself on the schedule to do the shoot.

When the day came around I was definitely nervous and if I’m honest I almost backed out of going. I can’t express enough how glad I am that I never backed out and went to the shoot! I ended up getting my hair and makeup done and it was a great way to start out the photo shoot because I was able to relax a little while feeling pampered.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the photoshoot, but I will admit while putting on my first outfit I was a little shaky. Shalista quickly made me feel comfortable and natural in the shoot. Once we got going I was having a ton of fun and feeling extremely sexy. By the end of the shoot I was bummed it was over because I was feeling extremely confident and having a lot of fun.

I was beyond impressed with my images and I would definitely do this shoot again. I would say that even though this started out as a little something to surprise my boyfriend, with it ended up being a gift for myself. I left feeling sexy, confident, and beautiful. I would recommend doing a shoot like this to everyone, and I will always always recommend Shalista.

Thanks so much for a great experience!

  1. What made you decide to do a boudoir session? Please describe how you came to the decision and what finally made you take the leap!

I have always wanted to do a session, and once a coworker told me about the Black Friday special last year I thought it was the perfect time to sign up and get one on the books for myself!

  2. What made you decide to hire me as your photographer?

Honestly I had not seen any of your work before scheduling the session but after scheduling I wouldn’t go anywhere else! I am so impressed with the quality of work!

  3. How were you feeling before your shoot? Any thoughts going through your head?

I was definitely nervous. I was worried I would not look great in the photos. I like many females am very self conscious, but once we got going all of those insecurities and nerves went away. I definitely felt comfortable and extremely sexy. I recommend to everyone to do a shoot even if it’s just for yourself to build your self confidence.

  4. Now that you've had your own photo shoot, how was it?

Amazing. Like I stated in the previous question I felt so comfortable and extremely sexy. It’s amazing to be able to see yourself and not seeing every flaw. I tend to pick apart myself and I never did that when I saw my photos. I just saw a beautiful confident woman. Every person should do this to remind them of how beautiful they really are despite what we tell ourselves.

  5. Is there anything I could do that would make this experience completely perfect?

not that I can think of! I had a great experience

  6. How did you feel about having your hair and makeup done?

loved getting my makeup done! My hair looked great too; but I am a hairstylist so I would probably do my own next time.

Miss K - I am beautiful and confident and fierce, no matter what.

I decided to do a boudoir session with Shalista at a time in my life where I was the heaviest I'd ever been and honestly when I didn't feel the greatest about myself. I wanted to do something nice for my husband for our anniversary and told myself if I could just get one good image, I knew it would be a good gift. I wasn't expecting much. I didn't think I'd get comfortable in front of the camera. I was just doing it for my husband. I bought my outfits, drove up to Shalista's studio, sat down for hair and makeup with the attitude that, "I just needed one good one."

Through hair and makeup, I already started to relax, my nerves were subsiding and then I saw what I looked like for the session and I could have cried. Yes, I was at my heaviest weight, yes I was nervous but the person standing before me looked amazing and beautiful. The minute Shalista started photographing me for the session, I was at ease. She knows exactly how to pose every single body type to make you look gorgeous, to hide what you may consider "problem areas," to focus on the most beautiful parts of every single woman. There was never a time in my head where I was thinking, "I'm not going to like this picture." The session flew by, I had so much fun and I felt this amazing sense of confidence, one I hadn't felt in a very long time, during and after my session.

When it came time to view my pictures, I was confident Shalista had captured some I would like, more than one at least. But what I wasn't expecting was to like a vast majority of the images she showed me. I said yes to so many beautiful images of myself. And that is a feeling that was given to me by the amazing photography that Shalista was able to capture. I felt like she truly captured the woman that was inside of me that I'd beaten down with a lot of self doubt. It's just something that I will never, ever forget and it's a gift that every woman should receive.

When I gave my husband the beautiful book that Shalista designed for me, he was thrilled, I was thrilled and it's something I know he will treasure. He said, "she really captured you how I see you every day." And that just meant the world to me.

I would do this experience again in a heart beat. And every single woman should do this one time, or more, in their life. I'd recommend it to any person, no matter your size or age or body type. Make time to do this for yourself. It doesn't have to be for someone special, it can truly be for you. What started as a gift for my husband, really became a gift for both of us. He got a beautiful book full of images. I now have a constant reminder that I am beautiful and confident and fierce, no matter what.

  1. What made you decide to do a boudoir session? Please describe how you came to the decision and what finally made you take the leap!

It was actually something that I'd wanted to do for a long time but decided, "oh, I'll wait til I lose some weight" or "I'll do this when we have a little more time or when I have a little extra money." But, really, I decided to do it when I knew I needed some sort of boost. I was stuck in a rut of not feeling the greatest about myself, not feeling beautiful and just needing to do something for myself. A friend of mine went to Shalista for her boudoir session and her images were striking and stunning and she looked flawless. And I needed that. So I booked my session and I'm so glad I did. I eventually just told myself it is now or never. My husband and I were about to celebrate an anniversary and I just wanted to give him something that he would remember forever.

  2. What made you decide to hire me as your photographer?

I have been friends with Shalista for a while and I've wanted to do a session with her for a long time. I was just never in a place where I thought I could. I loved and admired her style and her amazing way of capturing every single body type beautifully. When I finally decided that I was going to do a session, I knew she was the perfect person to photograph me.

  3. How were you feeling before your shoot? Any thoughts going through your head?

I was nervous. There is no denying that. I was at the heaviest weight I had ever been and the only thing I was thinking was, "I just need one image where I don't look horrendously fat." But that just wasn't the case. I immediately felt at ease and for someone who is "plus-sized" that is really saying something. I never once thought, wow, this angle is going to make me look fat. Wow, I'm going to hate this image. I was just comfortable from the get go.

  4. Now that you've had your own photo shoot, how was it?

I don't actually know that there are correct words to tell people how great my session was. You'd see other curvy women featured in these slinky outfits looking fabulous and fierce and really, I just wanted to feel beautiful. But I got so much more than that. Within minutes, I felt this confidence boost and this feeling that no matter my size I was this beautiful woman giving an amazing gift to my husband. Truly, I thought if I liked just one image, I would be happy. I left LOVING almost every image from my session and on this amazing high. I don't think I have ever felt so good about myself.

  5. Is there anything I could do that would make this experience completely perfect?

Honestly, no. For me, everything was completely perfect. I had so many annoying questions before the session and Shalista answered them with grace and genuinely wanted to help me have the most amazing session possible. She cares so much about all of her clients and just wants them to see themselves in a way that everyone else does. And she does it beautifully.

  6. How did you feel about having your hair and makeup done?

I've worked with Shalista's hair and makeup artist before so I trusted her vision impeccably and it was just absolutely flawless. I felt so good about myself even before stepping in front of the camera. I got to see someone else transform me into this totally fierce woman and I loved every minute of it.

  7. Any other thoughts or suggestions you'd like to tell me about?

I'd do this again in a heartbeat. Thank you, Shalista, for being such an awesome person and offering this service to woman of all shapes and sizes.

Miss Anonymous - She's still got it anniversary gift.

I was a little nervous on my drive to take my photo shoot. Once I got there and got my hair and makeup done. We started to talk and I started to relax more. I thought I looked great When she was all done with my hair and makeup. Starting out in my first outfit I felt a little uncomfortable because I'm not the smallest person but once we got started I started to feel more confident. I loved doing all the pictures and would do it again in a heart beat. I loved all my pictures and it was hard to select which ones to keep.
